In the near future, a totalitarian system exists which exports young people born with special gifts and superior intelligence due to genetic conditioning through an International Human Capital Market where they are discreetly traded. Two young lovers Bethany and Rowan must fight for their right to love, their right to exist and their right to live in a world together that will not accept their relationship and insists on separating them when Bethany's exportation date becomes imminent. Written by Jill Thrussell.
The year is 2030 and a new world power controls and manages the world and a new totalitarian system has been implemented world wide and leaders are allocated by the main world power to rule individual nations. Human beings are now regarded as assets which countries trade openly on a market called 'The International Human Capital Market'. Children and childbirth must be licensed and authorised by the government of each nation and once a child is eight years old, their career path and vocation is identified through a process called 'Allocation'. Once you are allocated you must comply with your chosen career path and if you are flagged for 'Exportation' at the age of eighteen, you are exported to the country that has been identified as your 'Recipient Receiving Nation' but those who are not flagged for 'Exportation' are never allowed to actually leave their country of their origin. Each country in this new world order is governed by companies but as each corporate country seeks to capitalise & Export their most prized assets human beings, genetic modifications create segments of young people, due for Exportation that rebel and are uncontrollable. A young couple fall in love but since Bethany is due to be Exported from their corporate country and Rowan isn't, a battle for the right to live, the right to love and the right to love each other in a world that forbids it rapidly ensues.
Every potential export is gifted with a unique genetic gift and there are ten identified gifts that most Exports posses in various degrees but the rarest is Predictionary Insight which Bethany actually possesses an abundance off. The gifts make the young people who possess them exceedingly valuable to their exporting nation and hence they spend most of their life in a protected environment. Due to Bethany's father's position however, she is more exposed to the outside world than other Exports which leads to the development of a forbidden relationship with Rowan who is not due to be Exported. Bethany and Rowan fall in love and that presents not only them but also their families with a predicament when Bethany's 'Exportation Date' approaches.
Once Rowan has decided that he cannot allow Bethany to simply be Exported, he persuades her to run away with him as they attempt to avoid the 'Enforcers' who come for 'Exports' in the middle of the night and remove them from their families, loved ones and friends. In order to avoid the 'Enforcers' who constantly hunt down any 'Exports' that have rebelled against their 'Exportation Date' the two seek out those who oppose the 'Exportation Movement' known only as the 'Hidden' and find a secret, underground network established and run by a man called Slade who offers them both sanctuary. When the two became part of the 'Hidden' however they are then thrown into a game of survival as they pit their skills and intellect against the 'Enforcers' who are always on the hunt for runaway Exports. Suddenly, the two find themselves in the midst of a fight to live in a world where love can banned and where your life can be dictated by the highest bidder as Exports have no choice and so Bethan and Rowan then have to fight for their right to love, their right to exist and their right to live together, in a world that will not accept their relationship and insists on separating them.
