Written by Jill Thrussell
In a near fictionalized future where countries are run by corporate entities and people deemed as corporate assets, some people are genetically altered prior to birth and given some special abilities, so that they can be modified and traded as Genetically Modified Assets and Exports upon the Human Market. Due to the unique nature of their special gifts these individuals are usually separated from mainstream society during their adolescence and attend special educational facilities and can even be placed in separate correctional institutions dependent upon the corporate policy active in each nation.
Despite all these separations however, two teenagers meet and fall in love during their high school years but unfortunately, they live in Raddnor a nation that is run by a corporation that enforces compulsory Exportation and the forced trade of Exports that are deemed to be VGMA's (Valuable Genetically Modified Assets.) Unlike their teenage years of high school when separation was limited merely to term times, since one of the coupling, Bethany is due to be Exported and traded upon the Human Market when she reaches her eighteenth birthday, the young couple suddenly face a more permanent separation challenge as her Exportation Date looms upon the horizon of their lives.
Suddenly, the young couple are forced to hide away from everything and everyone they know as they attempt to avoid their permanent separation because as they already know, the punishment to their rebellion can be severe. In order for Bethany to avoid containment in a correctional facility where Exports have become a source of live entertainment and face Death Challenges, the couple must hide to avoid her predictable future which due to their rebellion has gone well beyond a mere Exportation Trade. However, the Exportation Enforcers are hot on the young couple's trail and so it really becomes a race against time as they hide and run for their lives and somehow, try to survive. “Rowan had smiled at me with his flashy, provocative grin and I’d fallen straight into crushery, fast and hard. Crushery is that special place where you know you have a crush but you don’t dare admit it to anyone just yet. Sometimes you don’t even admit it to yourself.” ~ Jill Thrussell
