Set in a futuristic world, robots can be made to order from a global technology and artificial intelligence company called BrainScan Inc. to suit precise requirements which enables consumers to order ready-made families, dates, spouses, companions, prostitutes and even mercenaries. Each customer can also personally design and create robot like humans giving them the character traits, physical build and personalities they desire, or they can load the DNA of a dead loved one that can be implanted into the robot of their choice and then robots are controlled through ownership and human thought processes. When an anomaly is suddenly discovered that is infecting the artificial intelligence systems that people utilize to control the robots with dangerous and unpredictable results, Humantics a rebel organisation led by Benton Hunting that was formed to investigate abuses of technology by corporate entities, start a revolution as they fight for human survival and control of the earth. A female activist Venus quickly joins the revolution but as she starts to climb higher up the mountains of Brain Scan's secrets and digs deeper through the trenches of their murky affairs, she quickly discovers there are far deeper, much more dangerous hidden bombs of human treachery than she originally anticipated.
