Summary: When a bundle that contains a baby is left on the back steps of a building (in a dumpster) by a desperate mother outside an AI Robotics tech company in the middle of the night, a robotic AI security guard program (SECURI) is the only entity to notice the baby's presence and swiftly intervenes to ensure that the baby boy comes to no harm and is not lost.  Some years go by and as SECURI raises the male child who he names Phoenix in the basement of the robotics company with no human intervention, SECURI tries to teach the child everything that his AI existence thinks a human child and robotic child should know.  However, as the Phoenix gets older, he starts to learn about human biological families and as a result, he wants to seek out his natural biological parents in order to find out more about his roots which puzzles SECURI slightly because he doesn't find human curiosity that logical but nonetheless SECURI entertains the notion in order to make Phoenix happy.

Due to Phoenix's curiosity, the two embark on a voyage of hopeful optimism and discovery and as they try to identify his parental roots and track down his biological relations, SECURI tells Phoenix more about his origins and the night that his own programmable existence was thrown into total human chaos as they travel together over land and sea.  Both hold the hope that their search will provide an answer to the one very human biological question that SECURI cannot answer with any logic, why Phoenix was left on the back-door steps (in a dumpster) in first place and as they bravely face the past together, they start to reap the very human gains, losses, costs and rewards that those human biological discoveries yield.  At some point however, the two face a crossroads as they start to inspect logical robotic functions and human biological bonds of love and care after which point, Phoenix must decide which he logically and biologically prefers and which he finds to be the most important necessities to his human existence.  Written by Jill Thrussell
