Artificial Life Extensions

The Story:

Three patients on their death beds are offered the chance to engage in an experimental 'virtual life after death' grief comfort program where their minds can continue to live for an extended period of time through a virtual replication program and imagery simulation program that allows their persona to be be accessed by loved ones through virtual means as a means of providing support in their absence and to alleviate grief.  However, when a man who has lost his wife starts to spend more and more time in this virtual existence than his real life to the detriment of his physical being and no longer wishes to continue life alone, a counsellor of the program has to find a subtle way convince him that his real life is still worth living.  Written by Jill Thrussell
